I would like to share with you some recent portraits I have created from observing the live model. I have been painting the figure on a white background for over a year now.

I plan on continuing these studies until I have a full body of work to show in a future exhibition.

James Gray Gallery

Best Artists of 2012, ArtLA Magazine Issue 11

You can view the painting featured in the article at the James Gray Gallery located at the Bergamot Station Art Center in Santa Monica, CA.

The painting’s title “Indian Canyon Road” is named after the billboard’s location near Palm Springs, CA adjacent to a wind energy field. The top layer of paper on the peeling billboard is a Values.com advertisement for inspiration featuring Norman Rockwell and reads “He saw the best in us”.

Advertisement for Inspiration

I did not discover this until I was painting the image (My intuition tells me what are my subjects, and if I am lucky if they reveal themselves later on in the process). The billboard is owned by Lamar, the nation’s largest outdoor advertiser. Paper billboards are becoming more scarce as more digital billboards are being introduced. The compliments of blue and orange color make this painting really pop off the wall. I had never introduced such vibrant color into this series until now, and I am grateful to be able to use such colors with this subject. It was also wonderful and challenging to paint typography, creating both a graphic yet realistic effect.

Indian Canyon Springs Road

I am pleased to introduce my latest piece hot off of the easel. This is largest painting I have created in years, demanding a lot of time and a lot of paint!

I found this billboard in Palm Springs, CA.
